Nimbu Pani (Limeade) from NYT Cooking. This is supposed to be a cool reprieve from sweltering summers-lime, ice and water at some salt. Black Himalayan salt. It has a distinct sulfur aroma and flavor. Let's just say this is an acquired taste. This gets a 2.

New recipe, September 13, 2022
Pad Krapow Gai (Thai Basil Chicken) from NYT Cooking. The flavors are delightful, but it is quite salty, even with a good deal of rice. We would keep the proportions of Oyster Sauce, Fish Sauce and Golden Mountain but reduce them by 1/3 to 1/2. We give this a 4 because of the saltiness, but it could easily be a 5 when better balanced.
New recipe, September 12, 2022
Corn and Celery Stir Fry from NYT Cooking. We wanted to like this but it was just bland. We would have added more ginger, garlic, soy sauce and scallions. We give this a 2.

The Dirty Shirley cocktail from the July 2022 Food and Wine. If you are old enough to remember a Shirley Temple (the kid's mocktail we would get when our parents were having a cocktail when we went out for New Years Eve), you might appreciate this. It jazzes the original up with some vodka. I have such happy memories of the original, and this is very refreshing. We give this a 5.
New recipe, September 6, 2022
The Spaghett cocktail, from the July 2022 Food and Wine. Light beer with an ounce of Campari, this is surprisingly good and refreshing. We give this a 4.

The Kalimotxo from the July 2022 Food and Wine. The article says this combination of red wine and cola originated in the Basque Country and is enjoyed worldwide, but we don't get it, and we don't like it. We give it a 1.

Green Chile Pasta from the August 2022 Bon Appetít. This is really good. The pork is braised in the tomatillo salsa and then some reserved salsa is added at the end, giving depth and brightness all together. We give this a 5!

Cacio e Pepe Broccolini with Crispy White Beans and Burrata from Food and Wine. We like the flavor combination, but found it too salty. As made we give it a 3. Would cut the salt in half.
New recipe, August 30, 2022
Rum and Orange Cocktail from Food and Wine. No orange in here, but it gets the flavor from Amaro Montenegro and it's quite good. We give this a 4.
New recipe, August 29, 2022
Olive Oil Thyme Cake with Figs and Black Pepper from Food and Wine. This has a fun combination of flavors you don't usually think of as being part of a dessert, but they really work. And this cake is wonderfully moist! It gets a 5!
New recipe, August 28, 2022
Overnight Oats from NYT Cooking. This is surprisingly good! We did not think it needed any additional sweetness. That might be because we included some candied orange peel with the other dried fruit, but it really was perfect. Another 5!

New recipe, August 26, 2022
Spicy and Saucy Cherry Tomato Pasta from NYT Cooking. A deep umami filled sauce starts with cooking tomato paste to darken in, then adding brightness with the cherry tomatoes, which came from our garden. Yum! This gets a 5.
New recipe, August 24, 2022
Risotto Nero with Squash and Burrata from Food and Wine. This has such interesting flavors that complement each other. We give this a 5! Fair warning—black rice is a whole grain rice, so it takes longer to finish the risotto than with regular Arborio rice.
