Slow Cooker Hot Honey Chicken Sandwiches from NYT Cooking. This is a great sandwich, with layers of flavors added, from the sliced honey and vinegar added to the cooked chicken, to a pepper sauce with Mayo on the bun, to the slaw. Together they make a memorable sandwich. We give this a 5.

Southern Corn Pudding from the August 4, 2021 Denver Post. This made good use of some Colorado Olathe corn, but it never set the way the recipe implied. It was pleasant, we give it a 3 overall.

Corn Tomato and Zucchini Pasta with Fresh Basil from the August 11, 2021 Denver Post. The corn is Olathe corn from Colorado, and all the other veggies came from our garden. This is dressed only with olive oil and garlic, but it still has a delicious combination of flavors from the veggies and herbs. We give this a 5.

Savory Peach Pilaf from the August 4, 2021 Denver Post. This has good, hyper seasonal flavors (Colorado peaches are peaking now!). It was very nice with some lightly spiced chicken thighs. We give it a 4.

Spicy Peach Accented Guacamole from the August 4, 2021 Denver Post, and Frijoles de la Olla from NYT Cooking. We give both a 4. We found the frijoles to be full flavored, but the combination of peppers was too much for some friends.

The new recipe is Corn and Shrimp Beignets from NYT Cooking. Deep frying is always a bit of a chore but these came out light and really tasty. We would probably add a bit more cayenne, chives and lemon zest. Overall these get a 4. Served with a reprise of Abdoogh Khiar (Chilled Buttermilk Cucumber Soup) and the Little Gem Salad with Garlicky Almond Dressing, also both from NYT Cooking.

I love this time of year when you are eating things you have grown! The new recipes are both from NYT Cooking: Bulgogi (Korean Grilled Beef) made with perilla (an herb in the mint family) we grew, snd Eggplant Bulgogi, with Japanese Eggplant from the garden. Both are very tasty. We give both a 5.

Scallion Egg Wrap from NYT Cooking. This is a really simple recipe, but quick and delicious. You have options of what to put on—we used chili crisp. I learned that the key is to be sure the pan is really at the medium high heat before you start. That makes the egg release from the pan when it is ready. We give this a 5.
