New recipes, February 5, 2015

We had a new breakfast item, Scrambled Eggs with Miso, from the January/February 2015 Cooking Light. Nice, the miso adds a little sweetness and umami, gets a 3.

We also had a new dish for dinner from The Cuban Table, by Ana Sofía Peláez and Ellen Silverman, Bistec de Palomilla. The flavors were nice, but the meat was a bit overlooked--have a bit to learn about pan frying steak. We give it a 3.

Served with leftover Corn Soup with Italian Sausage from the January 28, 2015 Denver Post--still a 4!

Today's is a breakfast dish--California Barley Bowl with Lemony Yogurt Sauce from Epicurious. I had some question in my mind about how good this would be, but it is excellent--we give it a 5

Today's new recipe is breakfast, Mexican Frittata from Food Network. We added a couple chopped chipotles and some chanterelles. It is very tasty--we give it a 4.

Today's new recipe is another breakfast dish--Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with Caramelized Apples from the January 2014 Food and Wine. This is another tasty dish with great flavors--the ricotta and lemon are nice touches! We give this a 4.

Portuguese Baked Eggs from the October 2013 Bon Appétit. Nice breakfast dish--we lacked a few ingredients, it still gets a 3. We will try this again with all the ingredients!

Late add--we did try this later with all the ingredients.  It moved up to a 4.

We started the day with a new breakfast--Strawberry and Blue Cheese Bruschetta from the June 2013 Eating Well. Fabulous, we give this a 5!

Dinner was Cheesy Penne with Broccoli from the March 2013 Cooking Light. We give this a 3.



No wine, enjoyed a Duvel with dinner

Today's new recipe is breakfast--Mushroom Frittata from the October 2009 Cooking Light. Pleasant way to start the day. We give it a 3.

New recipe, July 30, 2012

Another breakfast--we made Pecan Waffles with Sautéed Bananas and Cinnamon Honey, from Epicurious. The waffles are interesting--there is no flour, just finely ground pecans--but light and delicious. Nice with the sautéed bananas, but would be great as well with strawberries or raspberries. Overall we give these a 3, but might try the batter again with a different fruit.

We aren't doing dinner, so we made Cardamom Sour Cream Waffles from Epicurious for breakfast. Served with Lingonberry preserves. We give this a 3.  Like other reviewers, we think it could have used more cardamom.
