New recipe, May 22, 2013

We had a nice top sirloin with alder smoked salt. The new recipes are Pot Roasted Artichokes from the May 2013 Bon Appétit, and Mango Salad from the January 2002 Gourmet. The artichokes are awesome, they get a 5. The mango salad gets a 4.

Wine: Forgeron 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon--great with the meat and mango salad, predictably does not play well the the artichokes!

New recipe, April 1, 2013

No fools are we this April Fools Day!  Tonight's new recipe is the Grilled Catfish Steaks with Chipotle Avocado Salsa from Rick Bayless' Mexican Kitchen.  We used halibut because that is what was fresh, and this was delicious!  We give this a 4.
We served it with leftover risotto with the radish pickle from the Romano Risotto with Radishes from the September 2009 Gourmet.  The radishes really made the risotto--we give this a 4!

Wine: Guy Drew Russell Vineyards Riesling 2010

Crispy Pork Medallions with Creamy Caper Sauce from the March 2007 Gourmet, served with Roasted Squash Salad with Bitter Greens and Cheese from the February 2013 Food and Wine. The pork needs the lemon and the sauce--we give it a 3. We give the salad a 4.

Wine: Guy Drew 2009 Viognier--a nice wine, a tad too bitter for this odd selection of tastes.

New recipe, October 14, 2012

Lacinato Kale and Ricotta Salata Salad, from the January 2007 Gourmet. Nice enough--gets a 3. Carl is traveling, so thus was my contribution to my dinner with Scott and Kate Noble and their girls, Jana and Lucy.

New recipes, February 1, 2012

Quail in Pomegranate Jus from the September 2006 Gourmet, and Green Bean Slaw from the August 2011 Food and Wine. These were both very tasty, and worked well together. This is the second time we have boned quail--it looked like we really butchered them (not in a nice way!) but they looked great after they were cooked. We give them both a 4.
Wine: Barnard Griffin Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

New recipe, January 27, 2012

Scallops with Almonds, from the January 2000 Gourmet. I altered this, using a low fat half and half instead of cream. The brandy and onion give it a nice sweetness. It gets a 3.5, and I am curious to try it with the cream! Served with a green salad with black and white sesame seeds.
Instead of wine, this was served with the Angry Orchard Dry Cider
